April Program Highlights
This month there are so many fun and educational programs going on in the Children’s Room, including lots of fun vacation week activities!
We’ll start off the month with an educational program for children ages 9-12. The Holocaust Remembrance program will remember victims of the Holocaust, the families, and children who suffered, and the brave people who risked their lives to save so many. This event takes place on Wednesday, April 12 at 6:30 p.m.
We’ll host a Spring Egg Hunt on Friday, April 14 at 11:30 a.m. Hop on over to the library! What will you find in your egg? Supervision required for all children. Participants must check-in at the children’s desk and receive a “pass” and a bag. *Please arrive early, as space and supplies are limited. Program begins promptly.
There’s plenty of fun during school vacation week, with special guests and shows including Creature Teachers Animal Show on Thursday, April 20 at 11 a.m. Children ages 12 and under are invited to come see a spectacular show featuring many different animals from all over the world! Sponsored by Friends of Worcester Public Library.
Flower Power: Planting Marigold will be held on Thursday April 20 at 2 p.m. Spring is the time to plant flowers. Come join us in planting your own marigold flower and learn how to take care of it.
You won’t want to miss Kites! on Friday, April 21 at 2 p.m. Join us and design your own kite to take home. We will provide the kites and markers! While materials last.
Carmen Barbosa will join us for Robocycle on Saturday April 22 at 11:15 a.m. She will help kids create their very own Robot using recyclable items and their imagination. Materials will be supplied.
Be sure to check out our Movie Matinee:Trolls on Saturday April 22 at 2:30 p.m. Join trolls Poppy and Branch on a journey to rescue their friend! A small snack will be provided. Rated PG.
We’ll have a Preschool Science Activity: Celebrating the Week of the Young Child on Tuesday April 25 at 9:30 a.m. Members from the Worcester Area Association for the Education of Young Children (WAAEYC) and Becker College students will lead fun, interactive science demonstrations featuring hands-on discovery stations.
You won’t want to miss Hate Has No Home Here Poetry Slam on Friday, April 28 at 3:30 p.m. In honor of National Poetry Month, we invite you to listen to a selection of poetry that encourages peace, diversity, tolerance, love, and friendship. Afterwards, children are welcome to recite their own favorite poem, or even one they have written themselves! Light refreshments provided. For families with children 12 and under.
We’ll have our regularly scheduled programs going on all month too.
May Program Highlights
This month we have so many fun programs for children of all ages!
We’ll start of the month by celebrating Children’s Book Week with Storytime Specials! Stop by for Pete the Cat on Tuesday, May 2, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom on Wednesday, May 3, and Put me in the Zoo on Thursday, May 4. All stortytimes start at 10 a.m. and the children’s librarians are dressing up as their favorite picture books! The week will be complete with books, crafts, and activities.
Join us for Movie Matinee: Moana on Saturday, May 6 at 2:30 p.m. Join Moana on an exciting adventure as she tries to save her island! A small snack will be provided. Rated PG.
Celebrate with a Mother’s Day Tea Party on Thursday, May 11 at 3:30 p.m. Mothers and children are cordially invited to our first Mother’s Day Tea Party. We’ll share stories, songs and a lovely craft for mother!
You won’t want to miss a Meet and Greet with Princess Belle on Saturday, May 13 at 11 a.m. Belle will sing songs, read stories, dance with the children, and pose for photos! Sponsored by the Friends of the Worcester Public Library.
Don’t miss The Ultimate Library Magic Show on Saturday, May 20 at 2:30 p.m. Come enjoy magic tricks and illusions with juggling and comedy. Audience participation encouraged for a magical experience. Todd is a nationally touring magician who has been performing for a variety of diverse and satisfied audiences for over a decade. He is also a current Walt Disney World Cast Member. One word makes Todd stand out - Experience. Sponsored by the Friends of the Worcester Public Library.
If you’re brave, you’ll want to stop by for Creepy Crawlers on Thursday, May 25 at 3:30 p.m. Spring is here and bugs are out. Is anyone afraid of them? Join our program to learn more about bugs, listen to bug stories and make a bug craft. Bug lovers are welcome!
