October Program Highlights

We’ll be celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month and Halloween this month in the Children’s Room, along with lots of other fun programs you won’t want to miss.

Kick the month off with Pizza and a Book! On Wednesday, October 4 at 6 p.m. We will introduce the 2017-2018 Massachusetts Children’s Book Awards (MCBA) nominations, enjoy some pizza, and have a fun book talk.

Yoga is back for ages 3 and under on Fridays, October 6, 13, 20 & 27 at 11 a.m. Ivy Child International will offer 30 minutes of yoga and mindfulness.

Join us for Latin American Art with Edmy on Friday, October 6 at 2 p.m. In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month local fine artist Edmy Ortiz will feature artist Diego Rivera and his passion for portraying the daily lives and cultural tradition of his people. Children will have a chance to paint their own masterpiece. Presented by 3 Sisters Art Studio and sponsored by Friends of Worcester Public Library.

People around the country will be celebrating Jumpstart! Read for the Record on Thursday, October 19. Join us at 4 p.m. to read “Quackers” by Liz Wong. Everyone can participate in the national event! Our community-wide event at the WPL welcomes guests Jake from the Bravehearts and City Manager, Edward Augustus.

Another fun Hispanic Heritage Month event will be Flamenco for Kids with Master Dancer Isaac de los Reyes on Wednesday, October 25 from 6 to 7 p.m. Flamenco offers many benefits to kids while they enjoy making noise with their feet! Isaac will be joined by Edmy Ortiz, and we’ll have a class on Flamenco dancing followed by a professional performance. This event is presented by Flamenco Worcester and is sponsored by Friends of Worcester Public Library.

We haven’t forgotten about Halloween! Join us for Trick-or-Treat at the Library on Monday, October 30 at 10 a.m. for children ages 6 and under. Later on that day we’ll host Halloween Fun at 3:30 p.m. For ages 6- 12. It’s Halloween time in the Children’s Room. Join us for a Boo-riffic fun Halloween Party with spooky games, stories and music. You’re welcome to dress-up.
