Curbside Pickup

FAQ – Curbside/Holds Pickup Service

What is curbside/holds pickup service?

Holds pickup is available inside the Main Library, Frances Perkins Branch and the Great Brook Valley Branch, and curbside at the Burncoat, Goddard, Roosevelt and Tatnuck branches. The procedures are subject to change.

How do I request items?

To request items, you may place your own hold requests through the library catalog, call the library to receive assistance placing holds, or request items via live chat or our email reference service. You may request up to 20 items per library card through the library catalog. If you need assistance placing holds, a librarian can help you place up to 10 requests.

Can I place holds on items from other libraries?

Yes, but please keep in mind that due to quarantine procedures and different levels of reopening at area libraries, items may take longer to arrive than you are used to. Commonwealth Catalog and WorldCat ILL services have also resumed.

What if I need help selecting materials?

If you are unsure of exact titles or need assistance in selecting materials for children or teens, please call 508-799-1671 to speak with a Youth Services librarian. We also have a Book Bundle service where you can fill out a form for adults (Main Library only), for teens, or for kids. Our librarians will select books for you based on your preferences and let you know when they are available for pickup.

Can I use the curbside/holds pickup service if I don’t have a library card?

You will need to have a library card before placing hold requests. To find out more about getting a library card click here.

How will I know when my holds are ready?

As with regular holds pickup, you will receive an email, text, or phone call when your holds are ready. If you choose to receive a phone call or text, you will only be contacted once. Holds will be available for pickup for 7 days.

Can I pay my library fines during pickup?

You can pay at any location during pickup hours using cash or check. You can also pay from home by logging into your library account, but there must be a minimum $0.50 fine on your account.
